Elementary Tech Teachers

A place for elementary tech teachers to share.

I am trying to help the 6th grade Health teachers come up with some projects that use technology but contain rigor, not just copy information into text boxes. Does anyone have any ideas that they would share? Thanks

Have students research a topic and do a Power Point with slides for these categories:

  • Facts - list 3-5 facts on the topic in a bulleted list in a complete sentence in their own words
  • I Wonder - list 2-3 questions they still have after learning about the topic
  • New Vocabulary - list 2-5 new words they encountered during their study and add a definition
  • Picture - locate a photo related to your topic, paste the photo on the slide and include the URL at the bottom of the slide giving credit to the website it was located on
  • Title Page & Citations Slides

Technology is just a way students can show their knowledge. What projects do students do now in Health? Start with these and figure out how technology can be integrated into them. Do students do research and create a poster now? Have them create a glog or a presentation instead. Do they do a report now? Have them turn that into a presentation or make a movie instead.

Are there health experts they could Skype with about a topic? I know at least one health class that joined the Digiteen project as part of their class.

I am working with our 4th grade students to create a brochure about nutrition. They have researched information such as what nutrients we need, how to read food labels, healthy snacking, a healthy snack recipe, and exercise tips.
