A place for elementary tech teachers to share.
I was asked last week to be the new elementary tech teacher (K-2), so I am scrambling to get up to speed! I plan on starting with lessons on parts of the computer and rules and procedures. Any suggestions for the next set of lessons? I love all of the great bulletin board ideas too!
Comment by Deanna Sternefeld on September 9, 2012 at 10:59am With the little one, I tend to do more classroom re-enforcement educational games. I work at a small Catholic school, so money is not there for software (games). I use a few websites: http://www.pbskids.org; http://www.abcya.com; http://www.tvokids.com just to name a few.
In second grade I use Kidspiration (one of the few paid programs we did get.) Then from that I move onto Word. We do a lot of writing prompts with the second grade starting in late Oct...early Nov. And Kidspiration has a lot of lesson plans you can get from their website.
Hope this helps a little. I remember when I started, I had to do everything on my own. It is great to find a site like this one to help!

We don't have kid pix and we are limited to what sites we can use, so Tux Paint is also a no go. So I use Microsoft Paint. This week, we viewed episode 1 on www.drawastickman.com and talked about creativity in the lab. I then did a mini lesson on the pencil. The young one's drew a picture and wrote (copied) a few words, the upper grades drew a picture and typed a few sentences about theirselves and what they liked to do, then we learned how to close the program and log off the computer. We then watched episode 2 on the site. They loved it!
Comment by Lisa Hines on September 20, 2012 at 9:14am I used http://www.kerpoof.com a lot last year with K-2, although at this point in the year, we're just doing simple drawing on Paint programs (Tux Paint at our school).
