iTune - Professional Development

iTunes allows educators of all backgrounds to get "free" professional development in the form of audio or video. Many educators are like their students (no, not bored), they learn in different styles. I personally enjoy learning through audio and video. In searching for amusing and entertaining podcasts on iTunes, I came across a section titled "education". This section broke down into specific content areas as wel… Continue

Web 2.0 - How does it help?

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go to NECC 2008 in San Antonio, TX. This experience showed me how much technology was out there and how educators were using it effectively. One of the goals of our group was to look into areas such as 1 to 1 computing, blogging,… Continue

Tech Club

Does anyone have a Tech Club at their school? If so, I would love to hear how and what it consists of. I will be taking over our school's Tech Club this year and currently have no idea exactly what I will do. Some of the ideas I have been bantering around are:

Create Tech Mentors
Create Internet Safety Mentors
Create a Podcast show (video or audio)
Repair computers that have been donated and redistribute them
Field Trips: Radio Station, TV Station, and various technology related jobs in the are… Continue

Internet Safety Curriculum

I am currently at school working on my K-8 Internet Safety Curriculum. I got some great ideas at NECC 2008 and finally narrowed them all down. Our state passed a bill requiring schools to have an internet safety curriculum in place. Most of my materials and resources came from www.netsmartz.org and www.cybercurriculum.org. I primarily used Cybercurriculum for K-6 and Netsmartz for my 7th and 8th grade. Due to time constraints… Continue

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this Tom. I did get your email. I just haven't had a minute to look at it and wanted to do that before I responded but I should have let you know I got it. Thanks for sending it!

Tom, I'd be interested in seeing what kinds of things you are doing with 7th & 8th grades this year. You can email me at computers@stmartinsschool.org or leave me a message here. I am struggling with not repeating things I did last year.

Tom, Thanks for the welcome. I found this site from some browsing on Classroom20. I'll be here frequently!
I don't know about THE Bob Frost, never been in IL, so not guilty of anything there! I just hang out in Alaska and do what I can.
