Hi - Has anyone run a Summer Tech Camp of any kind?  I ran into a site once where the Tech person had done that and thought it was a great idea.  But in reality how easy, how difficult??? How long would you run it for - 1 week (1-3 hours a day?), 2 weeks (1-2 hours a day)???  I would really like to do this but don't want to get in over my head either.  Just heard of a new grant that is looking for people to set up learning centers for those times when school is not in session.  Am open to any…See More

Profile Information

About Me
I have been in education since 1976. I have a major in Physical Education, a minor in History and a Masters in Library Science. I was a substitute teacher for 3 years and I have taught in Alaska (PE), Texas (History), New York (History) and Michigan (Media Specialist) all at the HS level. Four years ago when they closed the HS library (where I had been for 20 years) I was moved to the Elementary Media Centers. Then last year I was transferred to the new position of Elementary Technology teacher and asked to create a Technology curriculum for our school district.
I love photography, quilting, and animals. I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and an umbrella cuckatoo. I have one grandson (3) and my daughter is expecting her second child this Spring. My husband is an avid deer hunter, but I prefer to shoot wildlife with my camera. He has 3 granddaughters in Middle School.
How are you involved with educational technology?
I am the Elementary Technology Teacher (Young 5's - 5th) for the 4 elementary buildings in my district. I was asked to create the curriculum for our district last year. It is a work in progress. Last year was the first year to do this. Prior to that we took students into the lab at the end of their library class time after students had checked out their books. When the class was 60 minutes long we usually got at least 20-25 mintues in the lab. Then the class was reduced to 45 minutes which meant 15-20 minutes in the lab - but it was for a full year so progress was made. I now see students for a 45 minute block for one semester ONLY!!! NOT LONG ENOUGH!
How often do you see each of your classes?
We are on a rotating ABCD schedule so I see the same class every 4 days for 45 minutes - Young 5's to 5th Grade. I see students at 2 buildings for one semester then the other 2 buildings 2nd semester. I am the only Elem Tech teacher. The other 2 Media Specialists take the students into the labs when I am not in their building - but it is for a very short period of time - 15 + or - minutes after they have checked out books.
How long do you see each class?
45 minutes

Pre/Post Tests & Measurements

I am at a loss - I was moved from the High School Media Center (after 20 years) down to the Elementary Media Centers 5 years ago.  Last year I was put in the Computer Lab as the new Elem Technology teacher and told to create a curriculum.  I see students in 2 buildings one semester and in the other 2 buildings 2nd semester. We "Specials" have to give grades for the first time and have to have measurable goals all of which are connected to our evaluations this year.  I have spent hours online…
