What is your "news crew?" We have a tv program at our school and was thinking of starting a club to help me create it. Maybe I can call them the news crew! Very cute!

I am just starting a morning broadcast. Do you have any words of wisdom, curriculum, videos, etc. to share?

My "News Crew" is something I just started this year.  I work in a K-1 building and a 2-3 building.  The News Crew is only done at the 2-3 building and I only have 3rd graders on the crew.  At the beginning of the year I told all the 3rd graders about it when they came to applied technology class and then sent home permission slips.   The kids could sign up for reporter, videographer, or anchor.  I only have 12 members on the crew so I will start a new group in 2nd semester.

It is just a school news program.  We are all beginners so it is nothing fancy! We record special events, what's up or happening at our school w/ the principal, character ed with our counselor, and a VIP section (usually a star student).  We stay after school once a week and film one week, edit the next.  The news only airs every other Friday.  After I get the hang of it, we will be able to add more things and maybe air it more often but for the first year or two it will be pretty basic.

As far as wisdom, or thoughts.... ummm take it slow!  I wrote a grant for the cameras and tri-pods (grants are awesome!).  I had to have our school technology integration specialist give me a quick course on iMovie so that I can edit and piece together the broadcast.  Remember to add someone for cue cards (if you want that) and have back up supplies.  Especially with younger kids.  I haven't had any equipment break yet but I'm waiting for it to happen!  This would all be totally different with older kids.... I am only working with 3rd graders.

we did a live news broadcast everyday with fifth graders as the news crewe.  They did an awesome job. It only lasted about 7 minutes each day. We did the morning pledge, school pledge, lunch menu, weather report, announcments and quote of the week, as well as character trait of the month. This year we are in a new school while our building is being remodeled, and the equipment isn't ready here..
