A place for elementary tech teachers to share.
Has anyone out there done a cyberbullying unit with their classes? I am a first year tech teacher, and my school has absolutely NO guidelines or curriculum for me to use. I have been using this site a ton to get ideas for different lessons to teach, and I am making a lot of my own units. I would like to teach a unit on cyberbullying and how to be safe on the internet and I am wondering if anyone has done this before and has some tips for me.
Thanks so much!
Jenni

BrainPop has a free module on Cyberbullying: http://www.brainpop.com/technology/computersandinternet/cyberbullying/ (this is one of my main resources)
Common Sense Media seems to have a lot of resources related to online safety including cyberbullying: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/educators/curriculum
Budd:e is out of Australia, and I found that the kids did well with it: https://budd-e.staysmartonline.gov.au/primary/main.php
The Garfield Cyberbullying video is pretty good and I like the ABC's of Cyberbullying.
Check out Digital Passport. It has a unit on cyberbullying and so much more! My students love it!

Permalink Reply by Amanda Paige on October 30, 2012 at 8:08pm There are several topics on Internet Safety/Cyberbulling that have been posted in the last couple of months. You might go back and search for them. I know I posted several sites on the topic the last time it came up. I'm currently using www.usa-sos.org that I found on this site a few weeks ago to cover all Net Safety topics with my 3-5. I like Professor Garfield items as well. With my K's I've done the Router's Birthday Surprise presentation. 1st I've been using Hector's World which covers Cyberbullying and other online safety topics. Just start searching online and you will find a ton of cool stuff out there.

We teach Internet Safety/Cyberbullying together. I use mostly online resources and we also send book home for parents - "Net Cetera - Chatting with Kids About Being Online". These books are avail. through the government for FREE visit bulkorder.ftc.gov Anyhow, I created a YouTube acct and using the video manager I created playlists by age group Here are my playlists K-2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuaJcjxBK3U&feature=share&li... and 3-5th http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZHq4CQekTY&feature=share&li... A lot of these are PSA's and are very good. One is somewhat outdated but I am still looking for one to replace it. These are not my own videos - I do wish comments were turned off. Here are some other online sources I use...http://home.disney.com.au/activities/surfswellisland/ http://www.dangerrangers.com/ There are many more so send a message if you have any questions. We need to do what we can to keep the kiddos safe! :)
